Laura Van Horne

Laura Van Horne is a mixed-media artist working with encaustic, acrylic, watercolor, ink, resin, paper, and textiles. She was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and moved to Seattle, WA, in 1994. Over the past 25 years, Laura has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions. She is the owner of Gray Sky Gallery in Seattle’s historic Pioneer District and is represented by SAM Gallery.

In her words, here’s how she describes her piece titled Turquoise Bloom:
“My ink and resin Geode Series is packed full of color which is in contrast to the gray palate of Seattle. Gray is the perfect backdrop for these pops of color. These abstract paintings have evolved from years of experimentation with an elixir of inks, pigments, paints, and resin used on a variety of substrates. These meditative works appear organic or scientific in nature with geodes, human cells, irises and orbs coming to mind.”

We are honored to have Laura join us for this year's STFFShorts program creative. Check out more of their work at lauravanhorneart.com, and follow her on Instagram @lauravanhorneart and @grayskygallery
